With cold and flu season upon us, I’ve decided to post the list of symptoms to watch for courtesy of my favorite magazine, Parents.
Dehydration
Watch for urination less than three of four times a day, lethargy, sticky or tacky mouth, or sunken eyes, for babies a sunken soft spot.
High Fever
Any elevated temperature in newborns
Babies 3-6 months-101 degrees
Older kids 103 degrees
Breathing Difficulty
If you notice long pauses between breaths, breathing that is fast or labored, or wheezing call right away.
Not Eating
Eating or drinking less than half of their normal for two days or longer warrants a call to your doctor.
Preexisting Conditions
If your child has been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition or anything that would suppress their immune system (asthma, diabetes) you should call your doctor every time your child comes down with a virus.
